Weekly Social Skills Groups for Pre-Teens and Adolescents
Advanced Pragmatics Social Skills groups are designed for teens with high functioning autism and other social challenges, who want to further develop their social skills, independence, and confidence. Groups will focus on building relationships, conversational skills, self-advocacy, executive functioning, and non-verbal communication. Taught by a licensed and PEERS® certified speech language pathologist, clients will receive expert social skills training. This fall, Advanced Pragmatics is proud to implement the PEERS® program, the only evidence based social skills curriculum for this age group.
PEERS® Social Skills Groups for Middle and High School Students
The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is an evidence based social skills curriculum to help motivated teens learn how to make and keep friends. The program was developed at UCLA by clinic director Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson. PEERS® was created to help individuals with social deficits including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, and other social emotional disorders. Participants are taught social skills through guided lessons and role-play demonstrations, and practice the skills they learned during online socialization activities.
PEERS® Participants Will Learn How To:
- Maintain appropriate conversations
- Host successful get-togethers
- Choose appropriate friends
- Successfully handle disagreements and teasing
- Enter and exit conversations
- Use appropriate humor
- Handle Teasing and Bullying
- Handle Rumors and Gossip
- Appropriately use electronic forms of communication
